Brendan Jensen

BRENDAN JENSEN-Artistic associate and Outside eye


Brendan Jensen is a graduate of the National Ballet School of Canada and was a dancer for Toronto Dance Theatre from 2000 to 2008. He has also danced with Les Carre des Lombes, ProArte Danza, Sylvain Emard and others.

Brendan was one of two Canadians to receive the prestigious DanceWeb Europe scholarship in conjunction with the ‘2008 Impulstanz’ festival in Vienna, Austria. That same summer Brendan was chosen to be a participant in Deborah Hay’s ‘2008 Solo Dance Commission Project’ in Findhorn Scotland. In 2009 Brendan was invited to work with contemporary choreographer Ame Henderson on a piece entitled ‘Relay’ which toured Eastern and Western Canada as well as France. In 2011 Brendan was selected to be part of ‘Interrarium’ at the Banff Centre with Nicole Mion and three facilitators: Guy Cools, Ame Henderson and Sigmar Schroeder.

Brendan draws on post-modern and contemporary ideas about movement and the body in his emergence on the choreographic scene. He has presented dance works at ‘Series 8:08’ choreographic workshop. His choreography was featured in ‘Ladyfag’: A love Story” starring New York club persona Lady fag. This work was featured in the art show ‘I want to go to Africa’, currated by Sook Yin Lee for Xpace. His work has also been seen at ‘Monster Feelings’ produced by Sebastian Mena. In addition Brendan works as an Artistic Associate and Outside Eye for Company Vice Versa directed by Valerie Calam. Brendan has worked closely with Calam on works for Ryerson Dances, The School of Toronto Dance Theatre and Children of the Triangle.
